Job Summary
MicroMGx is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist lead and support bioinformatics innovations to improve our overall discovery capabilities. Qualified applicants will have experience integrating different types of data sets, using multiple programming languages, and working as a part of a team with diverse skillsets and backgrounds.
Specific Responsibilities
- Interpret large data sets and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist software engineers and other team members on software development efforts.
- Design and implement computational algorithms and experiments for the analysis of large genomic and metabolomics data sets.
- Develop and communicate best practices. Keep current with new standards.
- Communicate with a varied audience of scientists, analysts, and programmers on research methods, implementation, and results.
- Adhere to detailed work plans and timelines and fulfill other job functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- MS with at least three to five years of experience required, PhD preferred in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field.
- Equivalent experience in computational biology will be considered in lieu of relevant degree.
Minimum Competencies
- Proficiency in two or more programming languages such as Python, R, C++ or bash scripting is required.
- Strong verbal, written and graphic communications skills with the demonstrated ability to present complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three to five years of experience with computational biology, machine learning, and next generation sequencing (NGS).
Preferred Competencies
- Experience working with NGS datasets and multi-omics approaches.
- Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.)
- Experience working with LIMS
- Experience working with laboratory automation
- Significant quantitative training in physics, mathematics or probability and statistics.
